FATHER OF THE NATION

Today India’s proud playboy Sri N D Tiwari is busy hearing songs like ‘pyar kabi kario na…’ The feeling less Supreme Court is unable to understand that he believes in ‘free love’ and cannot be humiliated publicly for some ‘contraception failure (if he had used any)’. He is a ‘bhawra’ (bee) not a ‘maali’ (gardener).. His only mistake is that thirty two years ago (his ‘dabaang’ son Rohit Shekhar is of 32 years) when he was  54 year old and playing the ‘final innings’ of his ‘manhood’ he was probably unaware of contraception and most dangerously had no idea about the deadly technology of ‘DNA tests’, poor chap his fate cheated him.

He is veteran congress leader and freedom fighter (he went to jail for freedom movement in 1942 along with his father) and have to guard his image to maintain his vote bank which helped him to become Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh for three times as well of Chief minister of Uttrakhand once. Poor old man was force to resign from the cozy post of Governor of Andhra Pradesh due to his philosophy of ‘pyar do pyar lo’.I personally believe that due to this ‘image pressure’ this ‘retired-bhawra(as he is 86)’ was reluctant to take the post of ‘maali’.

Tiwari sir forget the bitterness after all its your ‘seed’ which is standing as a ‘tree’ although you never gave ‘water ’ to it. Now in this age you cannot make love so its better that transform it and shower it on your recently born son(DNA report proved it today). For your information an RTI filed has revealed that Mahatma Gandhi was never given the title ‘Father Of The Nation’ officially by government of India. So, after CM and Governor its time to aim for this title after all you served congress loyally till date and there must be many secret admirers whom you can charm for support, you just need to polish your 'magic charm'.

Tiwari ji this Judgment is not a failure it’s a signal of almighty to aim for the title of ‘Father Of The Nation’, grab it officially on papers before you die.

TYPES OF FAILURES

As an human being we all dream, think, plan, invest and toil for ‘success’ , ‘failure’ is never on our ‘desire list’ but all of us have to taste failure sometimes, even gods and superheroes tasted it. Ram ji failed to save Sita mata from being kidnapped by Ravan, all our superheroes get beaten up by powerful villains in the start and so on. The message is ‘FAILURE IMPROVES THE VALUE AND QUALITY OF SUCCESS’.

Fig:SITA HARAN, Ravan kidnapping Lord Ram's wife Sita

In my post “Are you sure about your Failure?” I told you that 'failure is a relative term'. Today I will discuss about the types of failure we face in our life as every failure has its own story to tell i.e. reason.  Category wise it can be of three types:

  1. Failure to anticipate
  2. Failure to perceive
  3. Failure to carry out a task

Anticipations might be described more as hunches, or gut feelings of what may happen. They usually involve a fair assessment of current conditions, and are based on how the current conditions are most likely to continue to develop. Anticipations help to serve more of an if/then type of role, and they allow for adjustments in a trading plan. Please do not get confused between the terms ‘prediction and anticipation’.

Fig: NASA Sunspot Number Predictions in March 2004 for Solar cycle 23 and 24, which did not come true. Even in 2006 a new scientific model predicted with 98% accuracy that cycle 24 would start at the end of 2007, and that its peak would be higher than cycle 23.Nevertheless, the cycle started two years later and the current prediction says the peak will be lower than the previous one.

Predictions are often grand proclamations of what is going to happen, and they usually include details about even how events will unfold. It tend to be stubborn, brash and unyielding, leaving no margin for error or revisions.

Now, beaming our attention to one of the oldest fields in Psychology i.e. Perception. It refers to interpretation of what we take in through our senses.  The way we perceive our environment is what makes us different from other animals and different from each other.

Fig:The Necker cube and Rubin vase can be perceived in more than one way.

“Everything you see or hear or experience in any way at all is specific to you. You create a universe by perceiving it, so everything in the universe you perceive is specific to you.” – Douglas Adams

Unlike our physical abilities, our perception is 'limitless', and it is the one thing we can change and develop. With experience, organisms can learn to make finer perceptual distinctions, and learn new kinds of categorization. Wine-tasting, the reading of X-ray images and music appreciation are applications of this process in the human sphere. Research has focused on the relation of this to other kinds of learning, and whether it takes place in
peripheral sensory systems or in the brain's processing of sense information.

Finally, carrying out a task depends on present circumstances, resources, various kinds of skill required etc.It majorly consists of execution according to the per-defined guidelines and set deadlines. Its requires coordination or management of various entities required for execution.

We should understand that we failed at which stage and try to find the reason behind it. Failure an opportunity to learn and improve but for that we must know that when, where and why we failed, merely shedding tears on the undesirable outcome is flushing out the ‘golden opportunity’ with buckets of  ‘naturally free eye-made salty water’.

BETTER THAN VALMIKI : THE MACHINE GUN PREACHER

Maharishi Valmiki is a renowned figure who wrote the epic ‘Ramayana’. It is said that once upon a time he was a highway robber who used to rob people before killing them but later on he realised his sins and left everything to become a ‘rishi ‘ and drowned himself in the name of lord Rama.

Sam Childers was born to a family of iron workers in USA who during his teens went into a destructive relation with cigarettes, marijuana, heroin and much more. This relation of his teenage years propagated him into several years of addiction to drugs, drug dealing, alcoholism and many other illegal activities. He was crazy about motorcycles and loved to live like an outlaw biker. This criminal nature at last landed him in jail.

After being released from jail he converted to Christianity and went to Sudan for the first time in 1998 to help Sudanese people battered by civil war. In the numerous trips that followed he saw humanity bleeding helplessly under the terror of Lord's Resistance Army(LRA). The bloodshed and barbaric atmosphere challenged the fighter inside him to stand up and raise a war for the unknowns. He stood up for the cause of orphans and ‘child-soldiers’ not only to support them by mere words or some thousand dollars but to rescue them from hell with his firepower. He became their preacher, a preacher who used to sleep with Bible on one side and gun on the other. This heroic act gave him a new name “MACHINE GUN PREACHER”.

He and his ex-stripper wife Lynn with all of their resources and efforts founded the Angels of East Africa, the Children's Village in Southern Sudan. The Children’s Village currently houses and educates over 300 orphans, with over a thousand children rescued since its inception. The staff at the Children's Village are primarily Sudanese orphans and widows themselves. This is currently the largest orphanage in Southern Sudan and is unique in its approach of leading armed rescue missions directly into LRA territory.

In his own words, why he stood up for the African children:

“It’s something when you can take a child who may not have a good life, maybe the schooling is not good, maybe the food they’re eating is not good. But they still have a smile on their face, they’ll still laugh and giggle. Children are the same all around the world, and I believe, sometimes, the more a child has, the more spoilt they can get – because in America there’s a lot of children who just aren’t thankful for what they’ve got. But I noticed in Sudan, you can take a bottle of Soda, you can give it to ten children and they’ll take little sips until everyone gets a sip, they would just keep passing it around, sharing. You don’t see that a lot in America.”

He is also criticised by some ‘idiots & hypocrites’ who talk of right and wrong ways sitting in their safe comfort zone but they do not know thatwhen bullets are flying in air instead of butterflies, you have to grab a gun if you want to breathe’. They talk about tolerance, non-violence and all that diplomatic crap but they can’t ignore that this man had not fought for some piece of land or money, he had fought only to rescue and protect children from being abducted, killed or forcibly converted into ‘child-soldiers’. I too support non-violence until the person in front starts considering it as my weakness or cowardliness and tries to cause some harm.

From last 13 years he protected, rescued and nurtured children in a distant undeveloped country crumbling under civil war but now after peace some people want to steal the good-will he earned by accusing him in different mean ways. Throughout the human history great people were  always accused after their services are not required and Childers is not an exception but at the end Childers  have successfully propagated his message of A Missionary With Musclesthrough his book 'Another Man's War'.On September 23 2011 a movie named ‘Machine Gun Preacher’ was released on his life featuring Gerard Butler(300 fame)

Valmiki left robbery to become a saint and wrote about Lord Rama who fought against evil to rescue his wife, Sam Childers left his criminal past and modern ,safe and secure life behind to fight against PLA on their own land to rescue African childrens…..definitely this man is BETTER THAN VALMIKI.

BRAVEHEART BACHCHAN

He belonged to the prestigious ‘Bachchan Gharana’ .His father Late Hariwansh rai Bachchan was a well renounced poet who still rocks the world with his compositions like ‘Madhusala & Agneepath’ but this tall guy was born to surpass the height of his father’s glory .So,today we  know Late Hariwansh Rai Bachchan as father of the ‘superstar of the millenniumINQUILAAB SRIVASTAVA…….don’t get confused I am taking about AMITABH BACHCHAN only.Actually ‘Bachchan’  was pen name of his father which means ‘child like’ which he adopted as his surname in place of his paternal one i.e ‘Srivastava’ and ‘Inquilaab’ was the first name given to our superstar which was changed to ‘Amitabh’ on the suggestion of renowned poet Sumitranandan Pant.

He ruled the industry in his youth and in his late sixties he is still rocking it. He also had his share of flop films, accidents on film sets (almost fatal one on the sets of coolie) and struggle in the industry which we all know about but in this article I want to talk about two of his major failures :
  •    Politics
  •   Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Limited(ABCL)
He ventured into the corporate and political arena with a bang to explode like a balloon later.  These failures not only brought ‘bad name’ to him but also made him almost ‘bankrupt’.

He had left the job of ‘freight broker’ in his twenties after which he broke all the records of the film industry but being an ambitious man he aimed at politics in 1984. In a film crazy country where actors are called ‘HEROS’ and worshipped as ‘DEMIGODS’ scooping up votes was a child’s play for the man who ruled the heart of masses with his ‘ANGRY YOUNG MAN’ image. His popularity was proved after his 26 July 1982 accident while filming coolie after which there where long ques of public outside the hospitals and temples ,some die hard fans offered to sacrifice limbs for his recovery.

With help of his long time family friend Rajiv Gandhi  he contested Allahabad’s seat of 8Th Lok Sabha against the heavyweight politician and former CM i.e H.N Bahuguna. His confidence was correct and he smashed Bahuguna’s dreams with one of the highest victory margins in general election history  i.e 68.2% of the vote.

My father always keep telling me “HATHI USE KO KHARIDNI CHAHIYE JISKIAUKAAD HO HATHI PAALNE KI” ,  in simple words you should buy something only if you are capable of bearing the running and maintenance cost. Mr. Bachchan entered politics, won but had no real idea of how politics is done. The ‘hero of reel- life’ was unable to fight the ‘real-life political crooks’. He got frustrated and realised that politics is not his cup of tea its safer and better to beat monsters in films. After three years of his historical win he ‘surrendered’ by saying “POLITICS IS A CESSPOOL” (a pit to collect domestic waste especially human excreta).I wonder why he said this, he was old enough to know that politics is, was and will always remain dirty (less or more, in this way or that way). It’s our favourite time pass to abuse politicians although they are just mere reflection of ‘the so called weak common man’ who is actually greedy & selfish. Sorry, that’s a different topic. THANK YOU Amitji you made people who voted for you to realize difference between ‘reel-life heroes and real-life heros’.

Later on he and his brothers where framed in the ‘Bofors Scandal’ but at the end he was declared clean. He took lessons from this chapter of his life and had maintained safe distance from ‘direct politics’. Now he supports his friend (Amar Singh helped him during his financial crisis due to the failure of his company ABCL   )Amar Singh’s Samajwadi Party by campaigning for him and his wife is a member of that party and a ‘Rajya Sabha’ member. He avoided to directly have a verbal fight with Raj Thackrey during the recent ‘North Indian row’ in which Raj Thackrey accused him for showering more affection on UP instead of Mumbai. During this menace his dignified & well thought comments brought big shots like Bala Shaeb Thakrey  to his rescue. The lessons learnt in 80’s was a ‘Goldmine’ for him in a world where people on peak are always in danger of being accused for petty things.

In 1996 during his temporary retirement period he became producer setting up Amitabh Bachchan Corporation, Ltd. (A.B.C.L.) in 1996, with the vision of becoming a 10 billion rupees (approx 250 million $US) premier entertainment company by the year 2000. ABCL's strategy was to introduce products and services covering the entire section of the India's entertainment industry. Its operations were mainstream commercial film production and distribution, audio cassettes and video discs, production and marketing of television software, celebrity and event management.

Soon after the company was launched in 1996, the first film was produced by the company. Tere Mere Sapne  failed to do well. In 1997,he attempted to make his acting comeback with the film Mrityudata, produced by ABCL. Though Mrityudaata attempted to reprise Bachchan's earlier success as an action hero, the film was a failure both financially and critically. ABCL was the main sponsor of the 1996 Miss World beauty pageant, Bangalore but lost millions.

The fiasco and the consequent legal battles surrounding ABCL and various entities after the event, coupled with the fact that ABCL was reported to have overpaid most of its top level managers, eventually led to its financial and operational collapse in 1997. The company went into administration and was later declared a failed company by Indian Industries board. The Bombay high court, in April 1999, restrained him from selling off his Bombay bungalow 'Prateeksha' and two flats till the pending loan recovery cases of Canara Bank were disposed of. He had, however, pleaded that he had mortgaged his bungalow to Sahara India Finance for raising funds for his company.

This failure brought the 6’3” tall icon down on ground but ‘when going gets tough, tough gets going’. Harassed by money lenders he returned to what he knew the best with a positive attitude and steely grit. He admitted that he is not a good businessman like ‘Ambanis’ who know how to manage the smallest things to avoid future loss. This quality of admitting mistakes and shortcomings is what makes him great. This was the time when he stated going to gym regularly so that he may not miss his work due to health issues. He vowed that his financial crisis will not curtail his children’s needs.

He attempted to re-establish his acting career and got the first breakthrough with the success of Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (1998),and was adored in Sooryavansham (1999) but Lal Baadshah (1999) and Hindustan Ki Kasam (1999) were a box office disaster indicating that the yesterday’s superstar will have to face 'Agneepath' for some more time in his real life.

The 'Agneepath' ended when he became the super successful host of Kaun Banega Crorepati(KBC) in 2000 which helped him to repay his loans and in November 2000 Canara Bank withrew its lawsuit against him.In the same year ‘Mohabbatein’ showered him with the affection of masses after which K3G,Bagbaan,Khakee and many other movies proved that 'BOLLYWOOD IS BACHCHAN’S EMPIRE'.

If we look at his failure in politics and business then we will brand him as a 'learner’ instead of ‘failure’ who values his hard earned lessons.I wish he will keep doing what he is best at(acting) till he can so that his accomplishments can shout back at people who criticize him : “BUDDHA HOGA TERA BAAP”.

WORST FACE FORWARD

Last Friday I went to Aditya Birla Hospital for my post surgery nasal cleaning. At the end Dr.Jaya asked me “so, how is your life going after surgery”. I told her that I have started this blog .She made a ‘confused’ face and asked “ ilovefailures, seriously what kind of name is this…I mean everybody hates to fail”?

I smiled because I was confronting the same question asked from me several times before. Assuming her to be intelligent, as all doctors study psychology as a subject and she was the senior most surgeon there, I briefly explained her the normal stuff that how failure is like ‘vaccination’ which save us from future infections of similar kind etc, etc. Amongst all these I forgot to tell her the ‘BEST REASON’ for which I love failure personally, the reason which inspired me to create this blog.

Failure puts you in awkward situations or frankly speaking ‘helpless’ situations at times. It is the time when you have to beg or expect for support from people around you. No doubt you beg for support from
people who are not close to you but you expect it from people who boast to your near and dear ones like family members, close friends, girlfriend/boyfriend etc.If a person not close to you refuses, you have no issues but if a ‘near and dear one’ starts giving excuses, try to hide after doing formality and at last refuses or drifts away from you then it matters more than anything else.

At the beginning you try to console yourself that, ‘there must be some problem, he/she will come back after all we are so close’. As the time passes your ‘self-consolation’ starts fading and you discover that the ‘face’ the ‘Smiling-Supportive-Protective-Possessive-Loving-Friendly-Helping-Cute-Innocent FACE’ was a ‘FUCKING MASK’(I apologise for the ‘F’ word but it is the true representation of the devastating emotion). They are also not able to hide their reality as being close for years you know what is their real situation and what they are capable of doing at that point of time. The failure like a hammer breaks their masks, like an acid test it dissolves their mask as they were never ready to bear the load of your failure. They were parasites surrounding you to suck the bliss of your good times and when the party was abruptly over due to your failure they flew to safe hidings waiting for a new prey. The devastating failure of yours forces them to put their real or ‘WORST FACE FORWARD’.

This ‘dirty show’ injects a pain in your heart followed by a period of agony, tears, frustration depression, disbelief in relations etc  which is accompanied by realisation that it was a  necessary ‘eye opener’ and you start pondering that ‘why it took so late to happen’. If you are lucky to have a bunch of ‘near and dear ones’ surrounding you after surviving  the acid test you feel ‘BLESSED’. After all this you end up with a better capability to filter out hypocrites and parasites from you surrounding  and also a stronger heart to bear any similar  future shock.  This is the time you start loving your ‘FAILURE’ which you always avoided and hated!!

DIZZNEYLAND WALE UNCLE

I was a kid born in small town in an environment where video games, cable TV connection & learning music was considered a danger to future development(STUDIES & GETTING A WHITE COLLAR JOB).The reasons was the basic ‘lower class mentally’ which is rampant in ‘small towns’. For us there were only three options of entertainment:
  •   Playing in evening within the ‘allotted time’
  •   Watching television.
  •   Blackmailing our parents by making a hue and cry:                                                             “PAPA DIZZNEYLAND LAGA HAI LE CHALIYE Naaa…”

Yes, this was my first encounter with the word ‘DIZZNEY’ or ‘DISNEY’ before I started watching cartoons on ‘DOORDARSHAN’ in the evening slot.

Walter Elias "Walt" Disney (December 5, 1901 – December 15, 1966) was an American film producer, director, screenwriter, voice actor, animator, entrepreneur, entertainer, international icon, and philanthropist

Artistic from mind & heart, during his school days he used to draw cartoons related to patriotic topics focusing on World War I for the school newspaper. Under his ‘patriotic urge’ he dropped out from his school at the age of sixteen to join the army but he was rejected for being underage. This ‘rejection’ doubled his ‘urge’ to serve in the war and he along with his friend decided to join the Red Cross. After joining he was sent to France in November 1918 where he used to drive an ambulance.

In 1919 he returned back to Kansas City, USA to begin his artistic career. After considering whether to become an actor or a newspaper artist, he decided on a career as a newspaper artist, drawing political caricatures or comic strips. This was the time when he faced an ‘array of rejections’ as nobody wanted to hire him as either an artist or even as an ambulance driver.

At this point of time his brother came for his rescue. Through his ‘links’ he got a job at Pesmen-Rubin Art Studio where he created advertisements for newspapers, magazines, and movie theatres. At Pesmen-Rubin he met cartoonist Ubbe Iwerks and when their time at the studio expired, they decided to start their own commercial company together. Ubbe Iwerks who was a talented artist later became his very good friend.

In January 1920, he and Iwerks formed a company called, "Iwerks-Disney Commercial Artists" but their plans failed and he left temporarily to earn money at the Kansas City Film Ad Company, and was soon joined by Iwerks who was not able to run their business alone. While working for the Kansas City Film Ad Company, where he made commercials based on cutout animations, he became interested in animation, and decided to become an animator.

Later on he decided to open his own animation business, and recruited a fellow co-worker at the Kansas City Film Ad Company. Now he and his colleagues started screening their cartoons at a local theatre, by the name ‘Laugh-O-Grams’. His cartoons became widely popular in the Kansas City area and from the money earned he was able to acquire his own studio. Unfortunately, studio profits were insufficient to cover the high salaries paid to employees. Unable to successfully manage money, Disney's studio became loaded with debt and wound up Bankrupt

Now, he decided to set up a studio in the movie industry's capital city, Hollywood, California. He along with his brother started a cartoon studio in Hollywood. Their work Alice Comedies, proved reasonably successful.

His company produced the new series, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit’ for Universal Pictures which received the love of audience in bulk. With this success his studio expanded but the rule of nature is ‘NOTHING IS PERMANENT’, so was his joy of success. When he went to Universal Pictures office to ask for a higher fee per shot he was informed that most of his main animators had left him to join Universal Pictures and he has no rights on the Oswald trademark as Universal Picture owned them. So, he ended up alone

It was a serious blow directly planted on his face by his fate and colleagues but it is said ‘THERE IS A GREAT VALUE IN DISASTER’. It was now when he developed the character of Mickey Mouse based on a mouse he had adopted as a pet while working in his Laugh-O-Gram studio in Kansas City. Not only this, he provide ‘soul’ to Mickey Mouse giving it his personality & voice until1947.From that day till date Mickey Mouse is a ‘superstar’ in the world of animation.

In 1934 he ambitiously decided to produce a full-length animated version of Snow-White. Experts in the industry treated it as a ‘suicide attempt’ of his flourishing career and termed it as “Disney’s Folly” .Many well-wishers tried to convince him to drop his plans but he was undeterred. Entitled Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the feature went into full production in 1934 and continued until mid-1937, when the studio ran out of money. To obtain the funding to complete Snow White, Disney had to show a rough cut of the motion picture to loan officers at the Bank of America, who then gave the studio the money to finish the picture.

“FORTUNE FAVOURS THE BRAVE”, Disney’s ‘daredevil act’ i.e. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs released in February 1938 received a standing ovation from its audience and earned over $8 million on its initial release which would be the equivalent of $122,487,945 in 2010.It was the  first animated feature in America made in Technicolour.

“NOTHING IS PERMANENT”, so was his success. Pinocchio and Fantasia followed Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs into the movie theatres in 1940, but both proved financial disappointments. The inexpensive Dumbo was then planned as an income generator, but during production most of the animation staff went on strike, permanently straining relations between Disney and his artists. During this bad phase Disney instead of losing patience successfully re-issued Snow White in 1944, establishing a seven-year re-release tradition for his features.

He did a lot of other stuffs like producing inspirational films for the soldiers during World War II, educational films on space programs etc but one of the most brilliant things he did was creation of ‘DISNEYLAND’ 1955.

He learnt a lot from his rejections, failures, criticism, bankruptcy and everything else that went against his expectations. It is due to all those well learnt lessons that he progressed exponentially and provided a sound base to his company on which it is proudly standing now.

After years of chain-smoking, Disney passed away on December 15, 1966 from lung cancer. Before dying he made ‘stone-hearted’ men like Adolf Hitler fall in love with Mickey Mouse and even after his death till date every child who watches cartoons, knows his name and loves his lively cartoon characters.

Here, through this post  I thank him for the fun I had in our ‘Local Disneylands’ inspired by the one he created decades ago.

“THANK YOU ‘DIZZNEYLAND WALE UNCLE!!!”

Few facts at the end:

  • During his lifetime Disney received four honorary Academy Awards and won twenty-two Academy Awards from a total of fifty-nine nominations, including a record four in one year and seven Emmy Awards
  • Rights of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit were acquired by his corporation now known as The Walt Disney Company in 2006 from NBC Universal i.e. 78 years after it was snatched away from Disney.
  • The corporation had annual revenue of approximately US$36 billion in the 2010 financial year.

THERE IS ALWAYS A GREAT VALUE IN DISASTER!!!

(Jojo John (itportal.in) is the author of this post.

He writes about his friend's failure-success story for us, under the column: 'YOU & FAILURE'.
This was an inspiration for him that he wanted to share with us. We thank him for contributing to our Website.)

Success stories are always bundled with at least a few or many failure incidents. Not all failures stories are exposed, but a few definitely get exposed intentionally or unintentionally. These stories inspire us, motivate us and thus help us become successful in our own story. Here, I would like to share with you a story of one of my friends (name confidential) who failed in his entire life, but finally nailed it when it was his call.

Let’s call my friend Ram (imaginary name). Ram was born into a middle class ‘sindhi’ family in Pimpri (Pune) in late 80’s. The family was into a small business since ages, but neither luck nor destiny supported them and they always lived from hand to mouth. He was a dull student in his school days, in spite of being educated from an English medium School, he was never able to speak English without pauses. He had good communication skills but could not communicate in English. It took him 4 attempts to clear his SSC and then he joined a nearby commerce college for HSC.

He was never interested in studies but he was good at organizing events and trading. Since business was in his blood, he knew all the necessary tacts to impress customers. He started of his career with ‘event management’. Small events like birthday parties, occasions like Holi, Gopalkara (dahi handi), Navratri in his society. He was good at his work, but luck did not support him and for unfortunate reasons he did not excel in this field.

As he entered 12th standard, he stared a ‘CD renting business’.  He gathered a huge collection of Hindi and English movies and started renting them to students at a nominal rate of 10 bucks a day. The idea was great, school children could easily afford 10 bucks from their pocket money a week for Movie. It started off well but ceased due to lack of substantial profit. By this time, he cleared his HSC with the poor marks with which any student could pass.

After his 12th he started working in a mobile phone shop in Pimpri as a ‘Sales Executive’. He excelled there as he was good in convincing. After working for two years in the same shop, a  new idea struck his mind of opening  his own mobile shop in Pimpri. He borrowed a huge amount from his friends and relatives and started a small mobile shop in Pimpri. Even though he was good as a mobile sales boy, but destiny did not support him for his own business. The shop was closed in around 6 months and he ended up with huge debts and depression. He lost all his supports and contacts and due to increasing debts and losses he  silently left the city and went to Mumbai for a while. Nobody in his entire friend circle was aware that he was in Mumbai.

He stayed in Mumbai for around 5 months. As it is said "THERE IS ALWAYS A GREAT VALUE IN DISASTER", it was during his Mumbai stay that he met an entrepreneur in Mumbai who had a well to do business setup in Senchen (A place between China and Honkong). The organization manufactured mobile phones for many leading Cell phones companies. Being impresses by Ram, he asked him to work for him as a manager there. Then what , the middle class boy with huge debts had a new goal in his life!. He did not have a passport  when he was given this offer, three months later after he got his passport he went to Honkong. He started working there as sales manager with a stipend of 25,000 Indian bucks with food and accommodation. His life changed, gradually he cleared all his debts and also got promoted at the place where he worked.

Today he earns more than 80,000 INR – this is the life story of a simple middle class boy who passed 12th with 39% and 10th with 41% after 4 attempts. Failures increased his capabilities to handle critical situations with better manner to produce an optimum outcome. His vast experience as a sales boy, event organizer, DVD seller, sales executive gave the perfect blend for him to work as  a successful sales manager in the new Organiztion.

May people may say that he was lucky but I will say
"FORTUNE FAVOURS THE BRAVE".

ARMY IN MY HEART

(Nitin Niraj tells about his struggle to get into ARMY. But fate has something else for him, though he got selected, his fate failed him.
This is a true story based on true facts and incidences. Story is written by Nitin himself.

We thank him for sharing such a wonderful story.)

My Childhood Love- ARMY
My Teenage Love- ARMY
My Adulthood Love- ARMY

This four letter word was like four directions of my life. I never dreamt of becoming an engineer, doctor, actor or model, my dream destination was INDIAN MILITARY ACADEMY DEHRADOON. This was the reason I never appeared for any ‘Engineering Entrance Examination’.

I sat for NDA(National Defence
Academy ) written examination for 5 times during my 12th but was never able to crack it .It was disappointing and my  elder brother use to taunt me “ENGINEER BUN ENGINEER,  ARMY JAKE BANDOOK UTHAYEGA KYA” .There was immense pressure to join engineering from family and friends. All my batch mates were joining engineering,’ few on merit and majority on donation’. I had no hard feeling toward people joining engineering on ’donation’ but it was frustrating when fathers of such people and my relatives used to nag my parents to do the same. My parents tried to convince me, my mother like any other Indian mother used to feed me with daily ‘emotional doses’ but like a stubborn kid I refused to join engineering on donation.

I joined ST.XAVIER’S COLLEGE from where I did my B.SC (computer application). During my gradation and after it for 5 times I appeared for CDSE (Combined Defence Service Examination) and every time I cracked the written examination and appeared for SSB (Service Selection Board). Here is a sequence of my first four SSB eliminations:

  •    First SSB: screened out from AFSB (AIR FORCE SELECTION BOARD) and eliminated on day one.
  • Second SSB: got eliminated on day five i.e. Last Day. After this my parent’s expectations and my confidence increased as I was very near to achieve my dream. I was more hopeful to clear it next time.
  •  Third SSB: got eliminated on day one.
  • Fourth SSB: got eliminated on day one.

After so much of failure and eliminations everybody around me started treating me like a ‘maniac’ and suggested to try for something else. By this time many of my ‘engineer friends’ were getting placed in famous companies like INFOSY, TCS, WIPRO etc. and I was a ‘pathetic manic’ still dreaming for one and onlyINDIAN DEFENCE’. Yes I was a ‘maniac’, a PROUD MANIAC’.
Finally, the day of my dreams came I cleared SSB in my fifth attempt and I was recommended for INDIAN MILITARY ACADEMY DEHRADOON.

Sometimes your efforts are not enough because even after achieving everything you dreamt of, your ‘cruel fate fails you’. During the SSB there was an accident, I had fallen from a height of around eight feet during ‘individual obstacle task’. In the final medical examination it was discovered that my backbone was injured. Although the injury was not that big and there were chances of the injury getting cured In future but at that time I was not fit for the ‘rigorous army routine’.

By the time my backbone became fully fit I had crossed the ‘age limit’ to apply making this ‘almost successful attempt’ my last attempt.
Now the world around me was ready to ‘suck my blood’ and in their eyes I was a ‘PARASITE’ sucking the hard earned money of my father. I was surrounded by a sea of ‘Engineers & MBAs’ in my colony and relatives, anybody of them getting placed anywhere was highlighted by my family signalling that I am a ‘LOSER’.

With no chance to go in army due to crossed ‘Age Limit’ I started preparing for masters and at last manage to get admission in SYMBIOSIS ,PUNE in M.Sc(CA) via SNAP in June 2010. Now some ‘caring’ people started ‘worrying’ that I will get spoiled in the ‘ultra-modern’ environment of Symbiosis(image of symbiosis in my area) and Pune. Many of them told my parents ‘’levies ka jeans ,rayban sunglass ye sab kharidiye  DWIVEDI JI  beta SYMBIOSIS jar aha hai ’’.

Here in Symbiosis in the first semester I got ‘four backlogs’ as it was after two years that I was in regular studies with a ‘really tough syllabus’ and ‘strict grade scheme’. In the second semester also I ended up with two backlogs .Now I started thinking what to do and what not to. Then my friends in this college helped like AMOGH, ANKUR, SITESH, SAMAR and many more. Then came the third semester, this time I cleared all the paper  with ‘flying colours ‘and at present I am an intern at ‘AMIWORKS ‘my first company  and I am doing stuff which I want  to do .

One more interesting thing ‘FEW DAYS BEFORE I GOT MY FIRST SALARY’.I am happy and proud of myself that I went for my dreams against people around me to achieve it (I was selected; only my fate failed me).

My only dream since childhood was to wish to wear a uniform. Though I failed to achieve but it helped me to become a man. Principles and discipline of army still guide my heart & actions and they will till I am alive. Though I failed most of the times one thing which never changed was my parents love for me. I will always be thankful to them for keeping patience and having trust on me. I learned to fight from previous failure while giving SSB I learned whom to trust and how to live life. I got my good friends who helped me though they could have left me by making lame excuses but they didn’t. I am doing well now but this is not the end I will do something better that will give me my own identity and separate me from the crowd.

FROM DISABILITY TO DIFFERENTIAL ABILITY

Born on 4/12/1982 without arm and legs Nick Vujicic has travelled the world, touched every heart he passed by and made millions to salute him out of inspiration. Just after being born his ‘failed fate’ showered him with pity and sympathy, he struggled to live a normal life. He went through a phase of severe mental, physical and emotional struggle but emerged with a willpower that 'Bruce Willis(Die Hard fame)' or even 'Superman' will envy. At the age of seventeen, started his own non-profit organisation,'Life Without Limbs'.

He can swim, play football & golf, insert CD in drives, climb stairs, get up without any support, do fishing, drive motorboats, use computer, get himself a glass of water, prepare his breakfast etc. on his own but most important thing worth billions of dollar is his ‘inspirational speaking’ which he has done
for over three million people in over 24 countries on five continents and the count is increasing everyday.

He graduated from Griffith University at the age of 21 with a double major in Accounting and Financial Planning which clears any doubt about is abilities.

For those who think that nick life is just about ‘motivational speaking' let me tell them that he added a beautiful dimension to his life by getting married to Kanae Miyahara on February 10,2012 in California.
So,at the end of this post I will want to ask you a simple question:
“If he can covert his disability into differential ability then what are you waiting for?”
